Welcome to part 2 of the Barn Stars Sew Along!
The Pinwheel Star block is a bit of a hybrid with three very traditional elements. Watch the video for tips on pressing, trimming, and assembly.
A few tips:
- One of my favorite tools to trim triangle blocks with is the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer by Kari Carr at New Leaf Stitches. You can find it here on her website. It’s very accurate and clips those pesky dog ears too!
- When pressing units, place the fabric you want to press TOWARD facing UP. This simple habit will save you a ton of time. Trust me!
- Most of the time, I press to the dark. Unless it makes a difference in how the block or unit goes together, then I press in the direction that is most accurate.
- This block does not let us always have nesting or opposing seams. You will see how I accommodate this. It isn’t perfect but it is a fair workaround.
